Serotonin
Serotonin, 5-Hydroxytryptamin, im Tier- und Pflanzenreich weit verbreitetes, durch Hydroxylierung und anschließende Decarboxylierung aus Tryptophan entstehendes biogenes Amin; Gewebshormon; wirkt im Zentralnervensystem als Transmitter serotoninerger Synapsen. S. kommt z.B. in Milz und Lunge vor, regt in der Darmschleimhaut die Peristaltik an und befindet sich in den Thrombocyten, aus denen es bei der Blutgerinnung austritt und gefäßverengend wirkt.
