Evolution
Evolution, zu Artenwandel und Bildung neuer Arten führender, in der Generationenfolge stattfindender Prozess der Umwandlung und Differenzierung der Organismen im Verlauf der Erdgeschichte. Während E. die Triebkräfte des Wandels meint, bezeichnet der mehr deskriptiv eingesetzte Begriff der Phylogenese stärker den historischen Ablauf des Wandels. Beide Begriffe werden häufig synonym verwendet. Belege für den Ablauf der E. ergeben sich u.a. aus der Erforschung von Homologien, Atavismen, rudimentären Organen, connecting links; aus der vergleichenden Embryologie ( biogenetische Grundregel); aus der Parasitologie (ähnliche oder gleiche Parasiten weisen auf Verwandtschaft der Wirte hin; z.B. finden sich Menschenläuse nur noch auf Schimpansen); aus der Paläontologie; aus der Molekularbiologie (z.B. Untersuchung von Protein- und DNA-Strukturen).
